Throughout the past few weeks, various forms of transportation have assisted in mobilizing the Road Warriors – planes, boats, buses – but the most important vehicle has been our trusty Honda CRV Billie.
In a former life Billie was known by another name. It’s not that she was an ugly vehicle, actually she was the opposite, but in an act of cruel fate her license plate read “FEA.” My sister found this ironic and deemed her the “Fea Mobile.” She was the perfect first car for my sister – roomy, reliable and able to take a beating (my sister isn’t the best driver – Sorry Em). From senior year of high school through 3 years of college, the Fea Mobile took Emily from horse show to school to home and back again. After these years of dutiful service, Emily started to yearn for a newer form of transportation and the Fea Mobile was replaced. From then on she was our family’s spare vehicle. However, she wasn’t destined to live a life of local travel. During our discussions of how to cross this country many vehicle options were considered. We had to compare size of vehicle, MPG, reliability and overall look. The Fea Mobile was on the top of list in all categories except overall look. Years had faded her paint, weathered her bumpers and dated her rims, but she had an “x” factor. So the decision was made to utilize her for our road trip.
Wrapping her in EMV messaging addressed the faded paint issue. Using some ingenuity, mom and I spray painted her bumpers for polish. And yesterday her face-lift was complete when we outfitted her with new rims. Seeing that she was changing owners, we changed her title and her “FEA” moniker was no longer available. Without the “FEA” reference and her new look, it was only appropriate to fit her with a new name. Since she is our rolling billboard, we named her Billie (after Billie Holiday).
Now I am proud to introduce you to the third member of our Road Warriors team, Billie.
