We are about half way thru our training season with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. As such it was time for a “Mock Event.” All of the Team in Training groups – cycling, triathlon and running – gathered right before sunrise at Lake Worth Beach to train together for our events. Usually, we only train with our individual teams so to see this many people gathered for the same cause was great!
Since all the teams wanted end around the same time, we shortened our ride distance and added bridge climbs. Bridge climbs are a pain – literally and emotionally. The idea is since we don’t have mountains to train on in Florida we instead use the bridges that span the Intercoastal as our prep for Tahoe. In theory, the task is reasonable. In execution, it’s much more elusive.
Luckily, Coach Big Mac let us ride flat A1A to warm up. This was the breakdown of our ride:
• Lake Worth Beach North to the Firehouse and back (3.4 miles)
• 6 Lake Worth Intercoastal Bridge Climbs (3 miles)
• Repeat 2 More Times
• Ride home (3 miles) *Allongo Family Exclusive
During my last set of bridge climbs Coach gave me an option: a) 4 more bridge repeats; or b) ride to the firehouse and back. Being the glutton for punishment that I am I chose the bridge climbs. My confidence in biking spiked but my legs hated me. Oh well! It’ll pay off in Tahoe.
Mom didn’t do too well this week. Sadly, bridge climbs give her major issues. However, she isn’t letting that stop her. This week we are focusing on getting her base conditioning up so that she can tackle those bridge climbs. She’s pushing me to ride more!
This Week’s TNT Workout Stats:
